The Nom Story

Nom was born out of a fruitless search for easily accessible free-from foods that were both tasty and healthy. I developed allergies and a metabolic condition while at university, around the same time that my mum was diagnosed with cancer. As a family, we became fascinated with how diet and nutrition can affect overall health. I really believe in adding value to a diet by eating wholesome, nutritious food. Once I started eating more nourishing whole foods, and cut out the processed foods and refined sugars, I started to feel happier, more energetic and my symptoms were under control. I knew that there were people like me in the same situation – who were probably feeling the negative effects of their diets, particularly when it came to snacking.

I wanted to make free-from foods which were appealing to everyone, including those with an allergy or intolerance. Eating healthily is much easier if you’re at home and have access to ingredients and cooking facilities, but eating nutritious food on the go is a lot harder. I knew that there was a gap in the market for products which combine health, taste, and convenience – so I started making nom bars in the kitchen at home. They soon became popular with family and friends, so I took a Tupperware box full of bars to a buyer at a health food supermarket in London. She loved them, and they launched into Planet Organic, Whole Foods and Ocado only six months later!

Nom products are special because of their unique combinations of super food ingredients, creating tastes and textures which can be lacking from other free-from and health foods. They’re organic, gluten-free, vegan and made with premium quality, fair trade and ethical ingredients. Both the bars and popcorn were the first to market to contain coconut oil as a key ingredient.
